Discovering Our World

Babies are doing new things everyday! It is really amazing how much they can change even overnight! Today, Jack figured out that on the bottom of his legs are feet! He now tries to grab them and put them in his mouth (like everything else). Claire and Jack both liked reading this morning (see the above pictures). They are so advanced :) They even both can hold their bottles (sometimes). It is so neat to see what they are going to do next.

Toy Explosion

If I didn't know better, I would think that a Babies R' Us exploded in my bedroom. I was looking around today at our room (which has been taken over by the babies pretty much). There are toys everywhere!! Claire is using the tummy time mat, and Jack is in the jumperoo. There are leap frog froggies, stuffed animals, whoozits, bumbo chairs, an exersaucers and two boppy loungers and two bouncy chairs in here. Not to mention all the books...

Who would ever think that two nearly 5 month-old babies would need all this stuff? Of course, when it comes right down to it, they enjoy the simple things the most (usually not even toys). They like playing with their bibs/burp cloths, playing with mommy's hair, lying on their backs and watching the ceiling fans. Figures. But somehow I am still headed to Babies 'R Us later...not sure what that is all about.

Experimenting

Babies are waking up again (after sleeping through the night for the last several weeks). I don't know what it is...at first I thought teething (of course, that is what we all think when babies get fussier, but I don't see or feel any teeth). Then we thought maybe Claire's reflux is acting up (she has been spitting up a lot more). We put her back on her medicine, and it got better for one night, but then she starting waking up again. Maybe Jack is tired of his swaddle? Definitely not it. Although we have been putting him in his sleep sack these last two nights with his little snuggle dog, and it is adorable. He just won't sleep all night like this. Check out picture up top. Also, here is a picture of Claire napping.

Super Dad!!

In honor of my hubby, Nick, I decided to post these pictures. Yesterday was his first father's day. I have to say that he has been great so far. He definitely does his share of poopy diapers and late night feedings. I really couldn't ask for a better husband and father to my kids.
In the first picture he is holding his father's day/birthday present. He seems to really like it (he should, he picked it out :) I also got him that t-shirt (inspired by Jack who loves when I play Superman with him).

More Mind Games

My friend, Michelle, told me that raising children is just a series of mind games. I think she is right. Just when you think you have it all figured out, they throw you for a loop and you get duped. For example, Jack has been sleeping all night for a while. No problems. We put him to sleep awake, and he soothes himself to sleep. He sleeps solidly until 6am or so. Well, these last two nights, he has decided that he wants to wake up around 1030pm and 2 am for no reason. Just starts crying...we go up there and give him his pacifier and after about 15 minutes of patting his head and turning on his sleep sheep (white noise machine that looks like a sheep), he goes back to sleep. Of course, it takes me at least another hour to get to sleep after this happens. Mind games. Now I am spending most of the day trying to figure out what has been different these last two days that would make him do that.

Claire (the one who used to wake up at 4 or 5am when Jack was sleeping solidly) is now sleeping through the night until 615. Go figure. By the time we get Jack back to sleeping I am sure she will go back to waking up at the crack of dawn. I guess that is just the way it goes. Mind games.

An apple a day...

...doesn't really keep the doctor away in their case. They couldn't eat apples anyway (no teefers). Today they had to go and get their shots (well, part of their shots...they are on an alternative shot schedule to avoid build up of aluminum, chemicals etc, so they go every month for shots for a while). While there, they had their well-visit too. The doctor was very impressed with how well they are growing! Jackson is 75% in length and head size compared to other babies his age (not too shabby considering he was small at birth). Claire used to be below the 5% she was so small (born at only 4 pounds 10 oz). Now she is in the 25% for everything (head, length, and weight). Yeah milk! So Jackson is almost 15 pounds (14 pounds 15 oz) and Claire is a little over 12 pounds (12 pounds 1 oz). We knew this already, of course (if you see previous posts...we have a scale and weigh them every night before bed. Yes, I know, we are crazy and obsessive).

I was particularly proud, though, of how we could check off every milestone on the list. Both babies are rolling over (Claire does it all the time). Both babies are grabbing for things and shaking them. Jack can be in the exersaucer all day (which is really for older babies) and he hits the buttons and turns the pages of the plastic book (Claire gets in this too, but isn't as into it yet). Both babies are smiling and laughing out loud. I had Claire squealing the other day when I was playing with her feet. Jack was laughing so hard today he snorted a little. Anyway, considering they are only 3-months old adjusted (they were born a month early so you aren't supposed to compare them to other 4-month old babies), they are doing great. My little over-achievers :)

Okay now they are both mad at me....

I keep making them do their tricks over and over again. It is just so fun (well, for me anyway). Jack is currently crying on his tummy time mat because he doesn't want to roll over. I really want to see him do it (the nanny has, but I haven't yet). Claire has rolled over twice today (proof it was not an accident)!! I got this new toy too (see Jack in picture above). He loves to play with all the buttons etc on it (and I love to see how he realizes he can use his hands to punch the buttons and make sound). So, I have put him in it like three times today. He doesn't usually cry in that, though, unless it has been more than 20 minutes. In fact, he was cooing in it and drooling on it (drooling is a baby's way of marking his territory, so he must like it). Anyway...those are today's Kendall twin adventures. Until next time...
